Making ME-Get's Match Making Crazy

E-Harmony Website

Ladies and Gents did you know that E-harmony has a 10 day free communication special!! Many of you may have already read that my boyfriend and I met on E-harmony so you guessed right, I'm a believer.

If you haven't already taken the plunge into online dating, start making your profile today, if I can give you any advice it would be to:

1.) Ask yourself if you're ready to be in a relationship
(sadly enough you may meet a great person but come to the realization you're not ready to be in a relationship-this causes some hurt feelings for both parties)

2.) Answer all of the questions thoughtfully and honestly ppl will be reading everything you've written, you can never make a first impression twice.

3.) Submit recent pictures! I went on a first date with a guy and yes he resembled his picture...only 10-15 years ago!

4.) Ask a few of your closet friends to read over your profile and ask them does it sound like you?

5.) Be safe, please-please read a few of the tips before you decide to give out your email, address, phone number. Also consider meeting out rather than inviting someone to your home for the first time...(ok now this is just my mom talking, but you know what I'm saying).

Good Luck!

Making ME Goes Interview Crazy!

Where do I begin? What do I need to know?

I’ve asked myself these very questions for nearly 5 years and believe me I have the books to prove I’ve been doing my research. Very early on I came to a conclusion I’m afraid, yes me the fearless go getter is afraid of failure. There is nothing more disheartening than to know you want something , you have all of the potential in the world to have it BUT the only thing that is standing in your way is YOU.

My journey begins by attempting to get my fears out of my way and for me to emerge with the strength, confidence and knowledge it takes to run my own business. True to my nature I had a 3 step plan that would start the process.

1.) Read my business books in their entirety and highlight any points of confusion
2.) Utilize the CRAVE Boston book to seek out women I need to know
3.) Interview business owners and ask questions…lots of questions

Tricia Cromwell an Independent Wardrobe Consultant was certainly a woman that I needed to know and after several emails we decided to meet in person. I had so much I wanted to ask her, below are a few questions I asked prior to our meeting.

When did you know you wanted to own your own business and what steps did you take in order to get there?

I knew I wanted to own my own business at 17 when I started working at a specialty store. I quickly became store manager and assistant buyer, and the owner really took me under his wings and showed me the ins and outs of running a store. Then in college, I studied under the Fashion Merchandising program, which introduced me to many more facets of the fashion business. I have always been motivated and a self starter, as well as independent in all of the jobs I've had, so making the transition to running my own company was always a goal of mine, and just a matter of time before I found my specific niche to go forward with.

What motivates or inspires you every day?

My daily motivation is accomplishment. I love the feeling of a setting a goal and a plan of action and seeing it all the way through to completion.

In our meeting I asked questions about liability, insurance, marketing and networking opportunities and to my surprise at the end of each question Tricia had an answer or helpful resources that could provide me with greater detail. I walked away having a deeper understanding of a supportive network comprised of friends and family, how to market my business, and the effectiveness of small business groups.

Tricia’s advice was powerful, motivating, and while she explained the difficulty and hard work it takes to sustain a business she was encouraging and that’s exactly what I needed. You could conclude that I too Trust in Tricia.

Making ME-Into a Godmother

I've read somewhere that the role of a Godmother is to provide additional guidance, to listen when a child's words fall on parents with deaf ears, to work with the parents to ensure a financial plan for the child and above all simply to love. These were very big shoes to fill and I'm not sure that it hit me until the ceremony how big of a role I would have in little Malachai's life.

Let's rewind a bit to hmmm 2003, ahh even as I type out the numbers I still can't believe how much time has passed. We were five friends who wanted to change the world, we had no intention of just fitting into some cookie-cutter mold that said who we should be. We wanted to take the world by storm and make of it what we wanted, I should add that we had no real vision of how we could/would accomplish such a task. We did have one thing that was on our side and that was talentwe were creative, inventors, business savvy, artists, and dreamers.

Combined I felt like we were untouchable at least that's when no one was fighting, and fighting we did  some would say like cats and dogs but I say like sisters. We were in every essence big girls behaving badly, myself included who managed to fight with just about everyone, no wait really everyone. There were times that I could swear we were never going to be able to find our humpty-dumpty glue and put us all back together again. With everyone out of college it seemed we were drifting further apart and while we were changing the world we certainly weren't doing it as we planned. Slowly we all started to come out of this fog and the glue that seemed certain it would never appear was found and individually we started to work on ourselves, putting all the pieces back together. I found myself, my goodness I found myself and I started to mend all the cracks over years that I had made and started to finally become the woman that I had always dreamed of.

B's and Andre's pregnancy was such a blessing and as we began to plan for Malachai's arrival you could see yet again the humpty-dumpty glue working and at his christening all was put back together again. During the ceremony I was so excited/happy/scared/nervous that I began to pray that I could be all the things I needed to be for Malachai. It wasn't until the celebration that I realized who we were so many years ago, we are today creative, inventors, business savvy, artists, and dreamers and while I was Malachai's Godmother we were all his village.

I read somewhere that it takes a village to raise a child. Our village wasn't a newly built complex on the end of a dead end street it was old, had been renovated, torn down, and now rebuilt. By being present we had all made a commitment that we would be just that his village, standing with him, behind him and beside him as he grew and matured.

Maybe we weren't Sex and the City, I surely didn't resemble Carrie but we are 5 friends who are fearless, sassy, and changing the world one villiage at a time.

Making ME-Gets CRAVE Ready

I have wonderful and exciting news......Making ME Phebe is now featured as a local blogger on  The CRAVE website! Talk about the power of persistence, and setting your sights on something.  After receiving the news at around 7am I couldn't wait to see the website and to my surprise in shiny pink letters there I was, for the world to see. Knowing the power of social media I was more than eager to share the good news to more than 200 Face Book friends and family.

I must say this book is such a page turner and since the CRAVE book launch event I've been reading through the book in search of women I NEED to know. You could say that I'm using this book as more of a directory of sorts. My once new book is now looking more and more like an old favorite that I've been perusing for years filled with creases, sticky notes and pen marks as its new found friend.

Here's what I've learned.....

1.) There is no such thing as dreaming TOO big

2) Take chances on things you feel really confident about

Making ME- Into a Food Critic, Blue Taleh style

What I learned:

1.) Be prepared! I met some fantastic musicians and as I was introducing myself I kept thinking shoot why don't I have business cards made?!

Friday nights are normally dinner and date night for my boyfriend and I, it’s a time for us after a long week of commuting to work and long hours that we can begin to unwind and welcome in the weekend. While I would love to say we pre-plan our date night it is often something that is left to where our appetite takes us and last night was no exception, we were craving Thai and our appetite took us to Blue Taleh.
Blue Taleh is nestled in the city of Lowell, where the downtown cobblestone streets lead you to flavors such as curry, coriander, and ginger. Upon entering Blue Taleh it was clear that we were in for a spectacular surprise. Friday nights in July are Piano Bar night, and Blue Taleh literally transforms from the quaint restaurant which serves Thai, Japanese, and Sushi cuisine to all of that and more, and the more is a musicians haven where sounds of Jazz fill your heart and soul. The Baby Grand piano, the flute, the saxophone, and the sweet sounds of vocalists fill the room and entice you to find your inner musician.

While we listened and at times sang along excitedly to the music my boyfriend and I perused the drink menu until finally deciding on mojitos as our drink of choice. I ordered the Tango Mango mojito, a blend of Malibu rum, lime, mint, and mango puree, while my boyfriend opted for the Blue Taleh mojito, a blend of Blue Curacao, rum, and mint and lime chucks muddled together. For a starter I chose the chicken coconut soup and for my entrée, I ordered the vegetable tempura that is accompanied with two dipping sauces. My boyfriend chose the pineapple fried rice with chicken.

When our drinks arrived I was eager to taste the mango mojito and see if it lived up to my expectations, it did! I must say I am a very harsh critic when it comes to mojitos and my favorite fruit is mango so the bar was already set pretty high. The drink was spectacular, the mint and lime was muddled to perfection and the mango puree was blissful. The chicken coconut soup came out at exactly the right time and once again at first bite I was impressed, while many may snub their noses at the idea of coconut milk and chicken making a spectacular combination for soup it is! It was a mild, creamy soup with mushrooms, scallions, chicken, spices, and coconut milk. Lastly my entrée arrived piping hot which included veggies like sweet potato, broccoli, green beans, and carrots along with two dipping sauces. As I enjoyed my entrée I couldn’t help but sample the pineapple fried rice with chicken, both the tempura and the pineapple fried rice were spectacular. I found myself liking the sweet chili sauce for the tempura out of the two dipping sauces and using the rice as an accompaniment to my almost finished perfect meal.

I was astonished as I looked at my watch and I realized it was almost closing time, had that much time passed from the time we arrived until now? YES, but I suppose time does fly when you’re in the company of a loved one, good food, good drinks, and good music.

Making ME- Into a Food Critic, Vox Populi style

I am happy to report that I have successfully completed my first restaurant review! On a wimb I answered a blog about becoming a guest blogger and within minutes I had a response, I was so overwhelmed and excited that I didn't know what to do. I will be featured as a guest blogger on traveleatlove.com, so stayed tuned. Below is my very long adventure into the restaurant review world and here's to putting my future Gastronomy degree to work.

What I learned:

1.) Put yourself out there, having the courage to be accepted/rejected is half the battle .

2.) Answer an ad that you would like to do and see where it takes you

3.) Continue networking and making connections with people you NEED to know

Featured NOW on traveleatlove.com

There is nothing more refreshing than family, food and fun and with the upcoming Fourth of July weekend I was going to get my fill of all three. My sister planned to be in town with her new beau and I could hardly wait to see the new couple. My mind was already racing where my boyfriend and I would take the new couple and politely grill him about his interest in my big sister, however with only one meeting under my belt I had to rely on my sisters two loves, Martini’s and her little sister. With one love already in the bag, it was off to a Martini bar that could hold its vodka and cointreau. My boyfriend and I finally decided on VOX Populi, a Martini bar known for its smooth Brazilian Blue, Hot and Dirty, and sophisticated bistro like setting. As I entered the restaurant it was apparent that already VOX was holding up to its reputation, with slightly lit candles and a warm welcome from the hostess I could hardly wait to dive into the menu. Our waiter, a twenty something guy quickly greeted my party and before he had a chance to pour our water he was screaming….GOAL!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOO, I knew immediately how to diagnose him, he had come down with the 2 month fever called World Cup. I have seen a few of my dearest friends overcome by it some taking a few days of rest at home while they watch their favorite team, I mean try and recover. Needless to say our waiter patiently waited on us while keeping a watchful eye on the Paraguay vs. Spain game, clearly he was a going for Spain and being the sport that I am I played along yelling and screaming at every potential goal.

Between screams from the bar and from our table I politely asked what the popular martini was and our waiter quickly rattled off a few until one peaked my interest. I decided on the Brazilian Blue and for my entrée the Vox Chicken, a pan roasted marinated startler chicken breast with herb risotto and parmesan spinach and pan jus, and my boyfriend decided on the southwest chicken sandwich on a hearty role with corn relish and red pepper mayo. At first sip my martini was blissful, it was cold had a crisp bite and you could taste the vodka and even the cointreau. It was in essence exactly what a martini should be and VOX had won me over with the perfect drink.

As we waited for our food to arrive to my surprise 3 more people became stricken with World Cup fever, and slowly but surely it spread through the restaurant many even taking to the bar to sit closer to the tv hanging from the wall, hoping to get a closer glimpse of the game. As the “fever” spread through the restaurant I couldn’t help looking around and people watching (a favorite pass time of mine) and enjoying the ambiance there was something really home like about this World Cup thing (or Fifa as I began to call it), it was bringing so many people across the country including Boston together in the most extraordinary of ways and there seemed to be a sense of pride in rooting for your country.

While I was starting to finally embrace the World cup frenzy our food was a welcomed distraction to the game and the tasting began. I eagerly dove into my startler chicken breast and risotto and nearly fell over, I asked my sister to try a bite and with one glance we said the same thing “NELL”, the risotto was reminiscent of something that was cooked in our southern home by our grandmother who we affectionately refer to as Nell and closely resembled her macaroni and cheese combination. The risotto was perfectly cooked and had exactly the right blend of cheeses to keep me wanting more. The chicken was cooked to absolute perfection and while it was incredibly moist was adorned with a crispy crunch of skin, again a favorite with my southern taste buds and the spinach and pan jus was simply icing already on the perfectly adorned cake. My taste buds were in heaven! I can say with cooking like this VOX has a new loyal guest. I’m certain my next visit will be with a group of girlfriends AFTER the World Cup.
